Anthony moved to Detroit, Michigan, when he was the age of two. Growing up in Detroit Anthony learned how to be tough and aggressive from an early age. Anthony attended the elementary school of Holy Redememer and played on the eighth Grade team when he was only in sixth grade. He was the tallest kid on the team at 5 foot 11. It was said[by whom?] that Anthony could dunk by the age of 13 when he was in the eighth grade and this is where he received the nickname "Big Time" by a local parent. Being able to stay out of trouble from an early age was critical for Anthony considering all of the bad influences around him.
